Griffins’ early blitz sinks Wolves

The Grand Rapids Griffins scored three goals in the first 10 ½ minutes and went on to earn a 4- 2 victory Saturday against the visiting Wolves in Game 3 of the American Hockey League’s Central Division finals.

The Griffins lead the series 2- 1, with Game 4 scheduled for Monday in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Chris Butler and Mackenzie MacEachern scored in the third period for the Wolves, who also got 30 saves from Jordan Binnington after he replaced Ville Husso midway through the first period.

Evgeny Kuznetsov and Alex Ovechkin scored 27 seconds apart as part of a three- goal third period, and the host Washington Capitals stayed alive in their Eastern Con- ference semifinal with a 4- 2 victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Penguins, who welcomed back captain Sidney Crosby from a concussion, still lead the series 3- 2.

Kyle Turris scored 6: 28 into overtime to lift the Ottawa Senators to a 5- 4 victory against the visiting New York Rangers and a 3- 2 lead in their Eastern Conference semifinal.

Durant carries Warriors

Kevin Durant scored 38 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, and the Golden State Warriors overcame a combined 7- for- 29 shooting from Stephen Curry ( 6- for- 20) and Klay Thompson ( 1- for- 9) to defeat the host Utah Jazz 102- 91 and open a 3- 0 lead in their Western Conference semifinal. Gordon Hayward scored 29 points for the Jazz.

Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry said he’s doubtful to play Sunday against the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinals because of a sprained left ankle that kept him out of Game 3. The Cavaliers lead the series 3- 0.

The NBA suspended Washington Wizards forward Kelly Oubre Jr. for Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinals Sunday against the Boston Celtics after charging and knocking over Celtics center Kelly Olynyk in Game 3. The Celtics lead the series 2- 1.

Alvarez dominates Chavez Jr.

Saul ‘‘ Canelo’’ Alvarez ( 49- 1- 1) won all 12 rounds on each of the three judges’ scorecards to coast to a unanimous decision over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. ( 50- 3- 1) in a battle of Mexican stars in Las Vegas.

David Accam and Nemanja Nikolic scored early, but the visiting Fire ( 3- 3- 3) wasted a two- goal lead and tied the Los Angeles Galaxy 2- 2 in Major League Soccer action.

Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya fell 26 seconds short in his bid to become the first person to run the marathon in under two hours in Monza, Italy.
