Six Public League players on top- 10 list
CITY/ SUBURBAN HOOPS REPORT
It comes as no surprise that Morgan Park’s Ayo Dosunmu headlines the City/ Suburban Hoops Report’s class of 2018 player rankings, but there are some lesser- known players, too.
Here’s a look at the top- 10 prospects in next year’s senior class heading into the summer.
1. Ayo Dosunmu, Morgan Park
The front- runner for all postseason awards next season, the 6- 4 point guard has lived up to the hype this spring. In a class short of high- major talent, Dosunmu is a star who simply has to work on his perimeter jumper.
2. TalenHorton- Tucker, Simeon
There was a period of time when the 6- 4 Horton- Tucker was overlooked. That’s no longer the case. He’s a high- major prospect because he can do three important things very well — shoot, pass and dribble. He also has a high basketball IQ.
3. TimFinke, Champaign Central
The 6- 6 Finke has been among the top prospects in his class since entering high school. A tough, strong, competitive wing who plays hard, Finke can step out and knock down a shot. He still is learning to create more off the dribble.
4. Darius Beane, Carbondale
Blessed with size, athleticism, shooting ability and playmaking ability, the 6- 4 point guard has a solid floor game, can rise up and knock down mid- range and three- point shots and boasts a high ceiling.
5. Drew Peterson, Libertyville
A late bloomer physically, the 6- 8 Peterson continues to grow. He’s a versatile player who will be better and more productive down the road when his strength catches up with his skill and talent.
6. Javon Freeman, Young
During a breakout junior year, the lanky and athletic Freeman showcased an ability to make plays. He thrives in getting to the basket and finishing. Physical maturation and an improved jumper would enhance the 6- 3 Freeman’s stock.
7. Xavier Castaneda, Young
An intelligent 5- 11 point guard who plays poised and under control, Castaneda’s passing abilities stand out. He also has more burst with the ball in his hands in the open court than people realize.
8. George Conditt, Corliss
The promising 6- 9 big has come out of nowhere, jumping into the top 10 thanks to his terrific length, agility and upside to go with a soft touch around the basket and range out to the threepoint line. He still is learning and catching up to the speed of the game at its highest level.
9. Kezo Brown, Simeon
Brown is a 6- 2 left- handed sniper who can stretch a defense with his shooting from the threepoint line. Brown is a biggerbodied, strong 2- guard who plays with toughness.
10. KendleMoore, Danville
Moore is a jet- quick, exciting talent with the ball in his hands. While small at 5- 11, he’s a lead guard wired to score in a variety of ways. He averaged 21.5 points as a junior, including 36 in a win over Curie.
