CHICAGO COP WOUNDED IN EAST CHATHAM SHOOTING

A Chicago Police officer was wounded in a shooting late Saturday in the East Chatham neighborho­od on the South Side.

The officer was shot in the hand about 11: 05 p. m. in the 8100 block of South Maryland Avenue, Chicago Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said on Twitter at 11: 33 p. m. The officer was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, but the officer’s condition was not immediatel­y known.

Man fatally struck by SUV after falling out of limo

A 27- year- old man died early Saturday after falling out of a limo bus and being struck by an SUV on Interstate 294 near north suburban Deerfield.

A 2012 Freightlin­er Truck Tractor limo bus was traveling south about 3: 05 p. m. on I- 294 at Lake Cook Road when James J. Larsen went to the front of the limo to turn up the radio volume, according to Illinois State Police.

Larson lost his balance, fell down the stairs and out of the limo bus’ door onto the pavement, where he was struck by a black SUV, police said. The SUV didn’t stop and continued driving north from the scene.

Larson, of Libertyvil­le, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The crash investigat­ion is ongoing. Tom Schuba

Police: Altercatio­n in city leads to fatal shooting

A man was killed in a shooting Friday in south sub- urban Harvey.

Anthony Anaya was found shot multiple times about 4: 30 a. m. by officers responding to a call of shots fired in the 16700 block of South Halsted, according to Harvey police spokesman Sean Howard and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Anaya, whose age was not immediatel­y known, was sitting inside a vehicle when two men fired shots at him from another vehicle that pulled alongside his, authoritie­s said.

He was taken to Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, where he died of his wounds at 5: 58 p. m., authoritie­s said. He lived in Chicago’s East Side neighborho­od on the Far South Side.

Person in custody after man fatally stabbed

A person is in custody following the fatal stabbing of a man Friday night in south suburban Ford Heights, authoritie­s said.

About 10: 15 p. m., deputies responded to the 1000 block of Drexel Avenue and found Jason Cody, 43, with a stab wound to his chest, according to the sheriff ’s and Cook County medical examiner’s offices. Matthew Hendrickso­n

‘ I just wanted them out’: 29 guns collected at buy- back

Ike Singleton lives in Joliet, but on Saturday he made the 30- mile trek to south suburban Dolton with two shotguns. He left with $ 200.

“It wasn’t really for the money, I just wanted them out,” Singleton said.

The 68- year- old was tired of seeing the shotguns sitting in his room at home, and was worried his grandchild­ren might get ahold of them.

Singleton, who said he loves animals, has no interest in hunting, and no interest in owning the guns.

Saturday’s buy- back collected 29 guns, according to Dolton Police Chief Robert Collins Jr. They included rifles, shotguns and handguns — even a single- shot derringer. Each gun turned in got its previous owner a MasterCard with $ 100 on it. Matthew Hendrickso­n

Pedestrian killed in 2- vehicle crash on NW Side

A woman died Friday night after she and another pedestrian were hit by a vehicle that was involved in a crash on the Northwest Side.

One vehicle was westbound just after 9 p. m. in the 4700 block of West Addison when it hit a second vehicle that was turning from Addison onto Keating, according to Chicago Police. The first vehicle then hit two pedestrian­s before crashing into a building.

One of the pedestrian­s, 58- year- old Edith Guevara, of Belmont Gardens, was killed.
