Twins’ 28- hit blitz fuels 20- run attack

Eddie Rosario hit three home runs and drove in five runs, and the Minnesota Twins set a franchise record with 28 hits while batting around twice in a 20- 7 rout Tuesday of the visiting Seattle Mariners. The 28 hits were the most in the majors since the Texas Rangers had 29 in a 30- 3 annihilati­on of the Baltimore Orioles on Aug. 22, 2007.

Eduardo Escobar had five hits, Rosario, Kennys Vargas and Jason Castro four and Max Kepler three for the Twins, who also got four RBI from Castro and four runs scored from Vargas. They scored seven runs apiece in the third and seventh innings.

Mariners pitchers Christian Bergman ( 3- 4), Casey Lawrence and Marc Rzepczynsk­i combined to allow 19 runs and 26 hits in 6‰ innings.

Cardinals 6- 5, Brewers 0- 8

Jose Martinez hit two solo homers and drove in a third run with a sacrifice fly, and Lance Lynn ( 5- 3) worked around three hits and four walks to pitch five scoreless innings as the host St. Louis Cardinals blanked the Milwaukee Brewers in the first game of a day- night doublehead­er.

In the secondgame, Jesus Aguilar and Travis Shaw hit back- to- back homers in a four- run fourth and Shaw-singled home the tiebreakin­g run in a three- run eighth that enabled the Brewers to earn a split.

Dodgers 7, Indians 5

Cody Bellinger homered twice and drove in four runs, Clayton Kershaw ( 9- 2) yielded two runs and six hits in seven solid innings and the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers won their fifth consecutiv­e game by defeating the Cleveland Indians.

Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig homered in the second and raised the middle finger on each hand at fans seated in the dugout suites on the field level as he crossed the plate. He said the gesture was in response to being heckled while in the on- deck circle.

Pirates 5, Rockies 2

Pinch hitter John Jaso hit a tiebreakin­g two- run homer in the seventh inning, Andrew McCutchen homered twice and drove in three runs and Gerrit Cole ( 4- 6) allowed one run and three hits in seven innings to fuel the host Pittsburgh Pirates past the Colorado Rockies for their fourth victory in a row.

Before the game, captain Sidney Crosby and several other members of the Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins brought the Cup to the field and Crosby threw out a ceremonial first pitch.

Nationals 10, Braves 5

Ryan Zimmerman homered twice in his return from a three- game absence caused by back soreness, Daniel Murphy went 3- for- 4 with two runs scored and two RBI and the Washington Nationals scored five runs in the sixth inning to rally past the visiting Atlanta Braves.
