Splett, Anne Marie

-

( nee Blair) 73, Ingleside, IL, died in the early morning of June 12, 2017.

Anne was born on Christmas Day in 1943, the second daughter of Earl and Evelyn ( Hull) Blair. In 1963, she was married to Kenneth Paul “Bud” Splett, who died in 1970. Their marriage produced 2 sons, John Splett ( married to Barbara Foster), born in 1966, and Darrell Splett, born in 1970.

In 1973, Anne married Patrick Warnock, who was tragically killed by a drunk driver in 1976. In 1977, after a whirlwind courtship, Anne married Randy Read, who proudly became the husband of Anne and the very proud father to John and Darrell.

Anne was a longtime Counselor and Manager at the Northern Illinois Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse ( NICASA), and was the first Clinical Manager at what is now NICASA’s Round Lake, IL Headquarters. She retired from full- time clinical duties in 2010, but kept her hand in the world of addiction services by maintaining her professional credential, including all continuing education, to remain as a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor ( CADC) through the Illinois Certification Board.

Anne was a lifelong artist. One of her proudest moments was when her design idea was accepted by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and then passed on and considered by the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation for what is now the World Trade Center and 9/ 11 Memorial. She was a chef quality cook, a mystery hound, and loved culinary and mystery programming. She loved music - from the first time she saw Elvis on Ed Sullivan to the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and so many others. Her capacity for love was unparalleled, she embodied The Golden Rule and was always an advocate for peace.

After her retirement, she focused much of her energies on being Grandma to Reed and Blair Splett.

In addition to Anne’s immediate family, she is also survived by her sisters, Mary Gay Stickels of Waukegan, IL and Kathryn “Pixie” Sedgewick ( Jim) of Huntersville, NC; as well as nieces, Lynda ( Dan) Lochner, Susan ( Tammy) Stickels- Garich, Chris ( Jeff) Sedgewick- Wilkowski, and nephew, David ( Nancy) Stickels.

In accordance with her wishes, her body was donated to the science of medical research, and no funeral or interment is planned.

In lieu of flowers, Anne’s family would like to encourage donations to the American Civil Liberties Union, or to a charity of their choice. Anne was a source of great joy to all who knew her, and her absence is and will be deeply felt. A celebration of her life is being planned for August 2017, and will include live music and good food.
