Tribe’s Francona out of hospital
Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona was hospitalized for the second time this month and missed the team’s 2- 1 loss Tuesday to the visiting Texas Rangers. Bench coach Brad Mills managed in Francona’s place.
Francona, 58, left the Rangers- Indians game Monday because he wasn’t feeling well. The Indians said he had tests at the Cleveland Clinic, and doctors have ruled out major health issues for now. He was released from the hospital and is expected to return to normal duties Wednesday.
Francona also was hospitalized after a game June 13 at Progressive Field. He was released a few hours later and returned to work the next night.
In the game, Adrian Beltre hit a tiebreaking home run in the ninth inning — the 450th of his career— to lift the Rangers to victory.
Major League Baseball suspended Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell for one game after he poked umpire Bill Miller in the chest during an animated argument Saturday. Farrell, who also was fined an undisclosed amount, served the suspension in the host Red Sox’ 9- 2 victory against the Minnesota Twins.
Joey Votto hit a tiebreaking two- run homer in the fifth inning to spark the Cincinnati Reds to an 8- 6 victory against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers, who remained a game ahead of the Cubs atop the National League Central.
Florida earned its first NCAA baseball title with a 6- 1 victory against LSU that gave it a 2- 0 triumph in the best- of- three championship series at the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.
