2 DEAD, 33 WOUNDED IN WEEKEND SHOOTINGS

Two people were killed and at least 33 others had been wounded in shootings across Chicago between 7 p. m. Friday and 8 p. m. Sunday.

The violence comes on the heels of a historical­ly violent Fourth of July that ended with 101 gunshot victims over the extended holiday weekend.

Since the start of the year, at least 1,890 people have been shot in Chicago, 328 of them fatally, according to Chicago Sun- Times data.

A late spate of gun violence left one person dead and six others wounded within a halfhour period Sunday night.

The fatal shooting happened at 7: 52 p. m. in the 3600 block of South Western in Brighton Park. A man and woman, both 34, were in a vehicle when someone shot them from another vehicle, Chicago Police said. They both were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where the man died and the woman was in critical condition.

The other fatal shooting happened at 11: 18 p. m. Saturday in the 6600 block of South Halsted in Englewood. A 27- year- old man was shot multiple times while arguing with another male in a gas station parking lot, police said. He was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where he died.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office had not released informatio­n on the deaths.

Two people were wounded in the latest nonfatal shooting, which happened just before 8 p. m. in 4400 block of West Jackson in West Garfield Park. They were both in good condition.
