Infinite Diversion became the earliest boat to finish in the 109 sailings of the Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac Island, Michigan.
The Hanse 630, owned and skippered by Joseph Haas of Winnetka, crossed the finish line at 7: 28: 51 a. m. Sunday, finishing first in the cruising divisions — which set sail Friday — in 40 hours, 8 minutes and 5 seconds. The previous earliest finisher was Steve Fossett with the multihull Stars and Stripes, which reached the island by late Sundaymorning in 1998.
Arete’ was the first to arrive in the racing divisions, which set sail Saturday, coming in at 2: 02: 43 p. m. in 24 hours, 2minutes, 43 seconds in the annual handicapped 333- mile race.
Slam lifts Phillies past Brewers
Rookie NickWilliams hit his first career grand slam, and the visiting Philadelphia Phillies escaped two late jams to earn a 5- 2 victory against the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers brought the potential tying run to the plate in the eighth and ninth innings, but the Phillies got out of it each time.

DeChambeau captures Deere
Bryson DeChambeau earned his first PGA Tour title— and a spot next week in the British Open — by making birdies on four of the last six holes on his way to a 6- under- par 65 and a one- stroke victory over Patrick Rodgers in the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Illinois. DeChambeau completed 72 holes at 18- under 266.
† Sung Hyun Park notched her first LPGA Tour victory by closing with a 5- under 67 en route to a twostroke victory over amateur Hye- Jin
Choi in the U. S. Women’s Open in Bedminster, New Jersey. Park finished 72 holes at 11- under 277.
Texans rookie RB arrested
Houston Texans rookie running back D’Onta Foreman, who was drafted in the third round out of Texas in April, was arrested on misdemeanor marijuana- and weaponspossession charges outside a dormitory at the university in Austin. He later was released on bond.
Hamlin wins in New Hampshire
Denny Hamlin held off Kyle Larson by a half- second to win the NASCAR Cup race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon. It was the 30th career Cup victory for Hamlin, who gave Joe Gibbs Racing its first triumph of the season.
Sky fall in double overtime
