Irving asks Cavaliers for ticket out of town

-

Kyrie Irving wants the stage for himself. The four- time All- Star point guard has asked the Cleveland Cavaliers to trade him, two people familiar with the situation told the Associated Press on Friday. The sources said Irving made the request last week to owner Dan Gilbert.

Irving has spent six seasons with the Cavs, who selected him with the No. 1 overall pick in 2011. He’s under contract for two more seasons ( he has a player option in 2020), but the Cavs could be inclined to move him now and begin another rebuild around LeBron James, who can opt out of his contract next summer.

A person familiar with the decision says the Cavs are promoting assistant general manager Koby Altman to be their full- time GM. He has been serving as the interim GM for the last few weeks.

Guard John Wall and the Washington Wizards reportedly agreed to a three- year, $ 170 million extension that would begin in 2019.

Center Pau Gasol reportedly agreed to a threeyear dealwith the San Antonio Spurs. He had declined the $ 16 million option on his contract in June with the intent of signing a longer- term contract with the team.

Brewers’ losing streak nowat six

Aaron Nola ( 7- 6) allowed one run and five hits and tied a career high with nine strikeouts in seven sharp innings, Freddy Galvis hit a two- run homer in the first and the Phillies beat the reeling Milwaukee Brewers 6- 1 in Philadelphia. The National League Central- leading Brewers have lost six in a row, with their lead over the Cubs now at one game.

Chris Sale ( 12- 4) pitched six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out nine, and the Boston Red Sox rode a five- run first inning to a 6- 2 win over the host Los Angeles Angels. Sale became the fourth pitcher in major- league history to reach 200 strikeouts in fewer than 20 starts in a season, joining Nolan Ryan ( 1977), Randy Johnson ( 1999- 2001) and Pedro Martinez ( 2000).

Cleveland Indians left- hander Boone Logan will miss significant time after being put on the 10- day disabled list with a strained muscle in his back. He dropped to the ground in pain after a pitch Thursday.

Collins just misses the under- 60 club

Chad Collins missed a chance for the 10th sub60 round in PGA Tour history and third of the season, parring the final two holes for an 11- under 60 in the second round of the Barbasol Championship in Opelika, Alabama. Collins was at 15- under 127 for a four- stroke lead over Grayson Murray ( 64) and Cameron Tringale ( 66).
