Eck’s criticisms of Bosox miff Price

-

Boston Red Sox left- hander David Price is frustrated with TV analyst Dennis Eckersley for critical comments he made about some of Price’s teammates.

Speaking with reporters before the Red Sox’ 9- 8, 10- inning victory Saturday against the visiting Kansas City Royals, Price said he would speak with the Hall of Fame pitcher when he comes into the clubhouse.

‘‘ He’s the one guy I’ve seen in my career that never shows his face in the clubhouse,’’ said Price, who was put on the 10- day disabled list Friday with inflammation in his left elbow.

In June, the Boston Globe reported Price confronted Eckersley on a team flight.

‘‘ If you’re going to say what he said, come around, show your face,’’ Price said. ‘‘ It’s unfortunate.’’

In the game, Sandy Leon scored the winning run by avoiding catcher Drew Butera’s tag on Eduardo Nunez’s grounder in the 10th inning to give the Red Sox the victory. Nunez also hit two solo home runs in a game in which each team blew two two- run leads.

Yankees 5, Rays 4

Brett Gardner singled home the winning run with the bases loaded in the ninth inning to lift the host New York Yankees past the Tampa Bay Rays for their sixth consecutive victory.

Chase Headley led off the ninth with a walk, and pinch runner Jacoby Ellsbury stole second. After Todd Frazier was hit by a pitch and Ronald Torreyes reached on a bunt single to load the bases, Gardner singled home Ellsbury to end the game.

Dodgers 2, Giants 1

Corey Seager had three hits and scored twice, and the Los Angeles Dodgers improved to 38- 6 in their last 44 games by edging the visiting San Francisco Giants. At 73- 31, the Dodgers are 42 games above .500 for the first time since finishing 102- 60 in 1974.

Orioles 4, Rangers 0

Kevin Gausman ( 8- 7) scattered seven hits in 8‰ innings, and the Baltimore Orioles ended a three- game losing streak by blanking the host Texas Rangers. The Rangers’ Adrian Beltre went 1- for- 4, leaving him a hit shy of 3,000 in his career.

Mariners’ Haniger hit in face by pitch

Seattle Mariners outfielder Mitch Haniger suffered a cut in his mouth when he was hit in the face by a 95 mph fastball from New York Mets right- hander Jacob deGrom in the second inning at Safeco Field.
