-

Former Bulls superstar Michael Jordan, the principal owner of the Charlotte Hornets, is a step closer to becoming a minority owner of a team in Major League Baseball.

Miami Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria reportedly has agreed to sell the franchise for $ 1.2 billion to a group of 16 investors, including Jordan and former New York Yankees star Derek Jeter, the Miami Herald reported. Jordan joined the group last month, but it isn’t known how much money he is contributing.

New York businessman Bruce Sherman, who is the principal financial backer of the group, will be the Marlins’ managing general partner, and Jeter will run their baseball operations, the Herald reported.

MLB officials are expected to discuss the sale in meetings next week in Chicago, but a vote isn’t expected for another month. The sale is expected to close in early October, the Herald reported.
