Mets 2B Walker headed to Brewers

The Mets traded second baseman Neil Walker to the Brewers for a player to be named. The Mets will cover a portion of Walker’s contract, which has $ 4.7 million left.

The Brewers’ second- base contingent, which consists primarily of Jonathan Villar and Eric Sogard, ranks last in the league with a .672 OPS. Walker, 31, hit .264 with 10 home runs and 36 RBI in 73 games with the Mets this season.

Harper exits game with apparent knee injury

Bryce Harper appeared to injure his left knee when he slipped on a wet first base, a potentiall­y devastatin­g blow to the NL East- leading Nationals.

Harper collided with Giants first baseman Ryder Jones while running out a ground ball in the first inning. The star outfielder put no weight on his left leg as he was helped off the field.

Harper, the 2015 NL MVP, is hitting .327 with 29 home runs and 87 RBI this season.

Marlins confirm deal to sell to MJ, Jeter group

Marlins president David Samson confirmed a signed agreement was submitted to Major League Baseball to sell the team to a group that includes former Bulls superstar Michael Jordan, the principal owner of the Charlotte Hornets, and former Yankees captain Derek Jeter.

Giancarlo Stanton hit his 41st homer and drove in three runs in the host Marlins’ 4- 3 victory over the Rockies. Stanton is hitting .382 ( 13- for- 34) with eight home runs and 15 RBI in his last nine games. He needs one home run to tie Gary Sheffield for the Marlins’ single- season mark, set in 1996.

First West Point grad in majors wins debut

Chris Rowley, a former first lieutenant in the U. S. Army, pitched 5„ innings to win his major- league debut as the Blue Jays beat the visiting Pirates 7- 2. Rowley is the first graduate of the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York, to reach the majors.

Cardinals catch Cubs for first place

Randal Grichuk and Paul DeJong homered and the Cardinals stretched their winning streak to eight games with a 6- 5 victory over the visiting Braves. Carlos Martinez ( 9- 9) tossed six solid innings and drove in a run for the Cardinals, who are tied with the Cubs for first in the NL Central.

Wild pitch gives Brewers walk- off win

Eric Sogard scampered home with the winning run on a wild pitch in the 10th inning, and the Brewers snapped a six- game losing streak with a 6- 5 win over the visiting Reds. The Brewers have won three times in their last at- bat this season. They closed to two games back of the Cubs.
