MAN RELEASED AFTER SHOOTING OF 3

Authoritie­s have released a man who was questioned by detectives after he fatally shot three people who he claimed were breaking into his home Sunday evening in the East Side neighborho­od on the Far South Side.

A police source said the 31- year- old man, who has a valid Firearm Owner’s Identifica­tion card, claimed he shot the three after they broke into his home.

Police questioned the man after the shooting to confirm that account. As of Wednesday morning, the man had been released without charges, police said.

2 shot in Zion turn up in police department lot

Three people were taken into custody after two men were wounded in a shooting Wednesday morning in north suburban Zion.

The men, ages 18 and 25, were shot about 11: 30 a. m. near the intersecti­on of 24th Street and Joppa Avenue, according to Zion police. The men then drove themselves to the Zion Police Department at 2101 Salem Blvd. as officers were responding to the scene of the shooting.

The men were taken to Condell Medical Center in with non- life threatenin­g injuries, according to police and the Zion Fire Department.

Preliminar­y informatio­n suggests the men who were wounded knew the shooter or shooters, police said. An investigat­ion is ongoing.

Metra board names new CEO

The Metra board of directors named a longtime mechanical department employee to serve as the next executive director/ CEO of the suburban Chicago commuter rail agency.

The board unanimousl­y selected James Derwinski on Wednesday. The 49- yearold currently serves as Metra’s chief mechanical officer.

Derwinski will replace current CEO Don Orseno, who is retiring at the end of this year. AP

3 facing charges after chase, crash in Kenwood

Three people are facing charges after a driver led police on a miles- long chase that ended in a crash late Monday near Lake Shore Drive in the South Side Kenwood neighborho­od, police said.

Pierre Green, 23, faces one felony count of aggravated fleeing, one misdemeano­r count of criminal damage to property, and was issued multiple traffic violations, according to Chicago Police.

Kenneth Douglas, 22, faces one misdemeano­r count of street gang contact; and a 17- year- old boy was charged with one felony count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

The pursuit started just before 10 p. m. Monday when Green drove away from officers responding to reports of shots fired near 75th and Lafayette, police said.

The officers and a police helicopter followed the vehicle until it crashed at 47th Street and Lake Shore Drive, police said. Green, of the Washington Park neighborho­od, was ordered held on a $ 250,000 bond. Luke Wilusz

16- year- old boy shot dead playing basketball

A 16- year- old boy was shot to death Wednesday afternoon in the Jeffery Manor neighborho­od on the Far South Side.

He was playing basketball at 4: 34 p. m. in the 9700 block of South Yates when a car with two male suspects pulled up, according to Chicago Police. One jumped out and fired shots. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Suspect surrenders in fatal Schaumburg shooting

A person identified as a suspect in a fatal shooting outside a Walgreens store Monday evening in northwest suburban Schaumburg surrendere­d to police Wednesday afternoon.

Quentin Tillison, 37, was involved in a dispute with a man in front of the Walgreens in the 1100 block of South Roselle Road about 5: 15 p. m. when he was fatally shot, according to Schaumburg police. On Wednesday, the suspect surrendere­d to police alongside his attorney. Detectives were continuing the investigat­ion, police said.

19- year- old man found shot to death in Little Village alley

A 19- year- old man was found shot to death Wednesday morning in the Little Village neighborho­od on the Southwest Side.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired at 8: 32 a. m. in the 2400 block of South Sacramento and found Victor Davila in an alley with a gunshot wound to the chest, Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical examiner’s office said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Davila lived in the Little Village neighborho­od less than a mile from where he was shot. Sun- Times Wire
