Cody, Richard Paul

-

Richard Paul Cody of Chicago IL, born July 6, 1931, passed away at home on Friday, September 1, 2017 at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte, and his parents Harriet and Paul Cody.

A graduate of Loyola Academy in Chicago and Notre Dame University, Dick’s talent for writing led him to a lifelong career in journalism and advertising during the "Mad Men" era. He met his future wife at the advertising agency they both retired from decades ago.

Dick’s passion for animals is evident in the wellloved cats who shared his life with Charlotte and led to their charitable support of animal organizations. Surviving Dick is Lickity Split, whom he chose to adopt 12 years ago from Chicago Animal Care and Control. ( Always the creative writer, he gave her the imaginative name because of her tendency to run through the house at top speed.)

Dick was also keenly interested in history, serving as a docent at the Chicago History Museum for many years. He conducted walking tours and shared a wealth of interesting tales about long ago Chicago with the visitors he guided. Whether the subject was local eateries and pubs, artists of the day, local "Mad Men" era advertising legends, mob personalities, or just about any other subject Dick could fill you in with a good story.

A generous and creative spirit in every way, Dick loved sharing a cocktail or two with friends over a nice dinner at one of his favorite haunts around the city. He lived an enjoyable life, was a good friend and family member, and was kind and caring with all four- legged creatures. He will be missed by his cousin Rita Bakewell and other family members and friends who had the great pleasure of knowing him.

Services will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 11: 00 a. m. at Graceland Cemetery Chapel, 4001 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60613.

Memorial donations may be made to Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control ( FCACC) at www.fcacc.org or, FCACC, P. O. Box 4414, Chicago IL 60680, the nonprofit organization providing lifetime support for Lickity Split.
