NFL won’t investigate DE Bennett

-

The NFL said it has no plans to investigate Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett’s behavior during an incident in which he was detained and handcuffed by police in Las Vegas two weeks ago.

The league was responding to a letter to commissioner Roger Goodell from the president of the Las Vegas Police Protective Association, the union that represents the police in that city. In the letter, the union alleged that Bennett made false accusations against Las Vegas police and asked the league to “conduct an investigation and take appropriate action.”

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy wrote in response, “There is no allegation of a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy, and therefore there is no basis for an NFL investigation.”

Browns rookie Garrett out

Browns defensive end Myles Garrett will miss several games because of a sprained right ankle. The No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft suffered a high ankle sprain during practice Wednesday when a teammate fell on his leg during a drill.

His status will be updated in a “couple of weeks,” the team said. That means he will sit out against the Steelers and likely the following week at Baltimore, and perhaps other games.

This and that

The Bengals signed linebacker Vontaze Burfict to a three- year, $ 38.68 million contract extension that will keep him with the team through the 2020 season.

Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. ( sprained left ankle) missed his third practice this week, and his status for the opener remains in doubt.

Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald is expected to miss the opener as he continues his holdout.
