Takeaways key to Warriors’ rout
DAILY HERALD SUBURBAN GAME OF THE WEEK WILLOWBROOK 45, ADDISON TRAIL 0
The District 88 trophy is staying in Villa Park. With an exclamation point. For the second consecutive year, Willowbrook defeated district rival Addison Trail in a one- sided result. This time, the score was 45- 0 in West Suburban Gold conference game Friday in Villa Park.
After being stopped on their first drive, the Warriors scored on their final four possessions of the first half, including a 90- yard interception return for a touchdown from Sam Tumilty.
Willowbrook forced six turnovers, including five interceptions.
Willowbrook quarterback John Taylor started the second quarter with a four- yard touchdown run. He also finished with 208 yards passing and one touchdown.
“We’re a confident group andwe believe in each other,” Taylor said. “We know we’re capable of doing this to every team. We should have had more points, honestly.”
Willowbrook running back Jack Jessen had two touchdowns and carried the ball 16 times for 75 yards.
Addison Trail running back Nick D’Ambrose finished with 17 carries for 84 yards.
But a fierce and focused defensive effort from Willowbrook was far too much for the Blazers to overcome.
“We just practice hard, and we wanted to do something good and show everyone what we’ve got,” said Willow brook senior defensive back Jacob Entwhistle, who had an interception and also caught a touchdown to trigger a running clock. “We wanted this all year, and we’ve won it two years in a row now. We wanted it bad.”
Next week, Addison Trail ( 2- 2, 0- 1) hosts Downers Grove South, while Willowbrook ( 3- 1, 2- 0) visits Hinsdale South.
