Dolphins suspend LB Timmons indefinite­ly

The Miami Dolphins suspended veteran outside linebacker Lawrence Timmons indefinite­ly Tuesday after he went AWOL on the eve of the team’s season opener. Timmons signed a two- year, $ 10 million contract in March but has not played a regular- season game.

Gase was angered by his disappeara­nce, which occurred the day before the Dolphins’ game Sunday at the San Diego Chargers.

Kevin Durant acknowledg­ed a controvers­ial Twitter incident and apologized for comments critical of his former team and coach, calling the tweets ‘‘ idiotic’’ and ‘‘ childish.’’

The tweets Sunday were in response to a fan who questioned Durant’s reasoning behind leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder to join the Warriors in July 2016. Durant, speaking in the third person, responded by saying he didn’t like the organizati­on or playing for Billy Donovan.

NHL Devils’ Boyle has leukemia

New Jersey Devils forward Brian Boyle has been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia, a type of bone- marrowcanc­er that the team’s doctor says can be treated with medication. Boyle says he hopes to start playing hockey again soon. It is the same disease former NHL forward Jason Blake played through after being diagnosed in 2007.

GOLF Tiger’s tourney has no sponsor

Formerly known as the Quicken Loans Invitation­al, the tournament hosted by Tiger Woods in the Washington area is currently without a title sponsor or host course. It is listed on the schedule as ‘‘ The National,’’ and it will be played June 28- July 1 at a stillunkno­wn location.
