ARMORED CAR DRIVER SHOOTS ROBBER WIELDING SLEDGEHAMM­ER

An armored car driver shot a person who tried to rob him with a sledgehamm­er Saturday morning in the Southwest Side Little Village neighborho­od.

The driver, who works for the Garda armored car service, was making a delivery about 9: 30 a. m. at a currency exchange in the 4300 block of West 26th Street when a male wearing a reflective vest hit him with a sledgehamm­er in an attempt to rob him, according to FBI spokesman Garrett Croon.

The driver then shot the suspect, who ran away from the scene, Croon said. He was spotted a short time later in a vehicle at a nearby intersecti­on and taken into custody by Chicago Police.

Police said the suspect was in critical condition.

The Garda employee suffered “non- life threatenin­g, but life altering, wounds,” Croon said. Luke Wilusz

13- year- old shot while riding bike in Little Village

A 13- year- old boy was shot Saturday afternoon in the Little Village neighborho­od on the Southwest Side.

The boy was riding a bike at 2: 39 p. m. in the 2500 block of South St. Louis Avenue when someone got out of a light- colored sedan that was driving by and fired shots at him, Chicago Police said. He was struck in his right arm and is in good condition, police said.

Autopsy: Man shot by cops killed self in Gary drug bust

An autopsy Saturday found that a 33- year- old northwest Indiana man shot by police on Thursday later fatally shot himself in a backyard during a chase that followed a drug bust.

Gary resident Ned Brooks was being pulled over by police when he rammed his vehicle into several unmarked law enforcemen­t cars as he tried to escape, police said. While driving away, the Brooks opened fire. Brooks abandoned his vehicle on 22nd Place and ran away, continuing to shoot, according to police. Officers eventually found Brooks in the backyard of a house in the 4200 block of West 22nd Place. He had been struck by police gunfire and had apparently fatally shot himself in the head.

An autopsy Saturday revealed Brooks suffered a “superficia­l” bullet wound to his right thigh and abdomen, a “through and through” wound to his left thigh and a fatal selfinflic­ted gunshot wound to his right temple, according to the coroner’s office. Sun- Times Wire

3 shot at funeral

Three men were wounded in a shooting Saturday night in the Englewood neighborho­od on the South Side.

They were attending a funeral when someone came up to them and began shooting at 8: 06 p. m. in the 7500 block of South Union, Chicago Police said. The conditions of two men had stabilized, while the third victim declined medical attention, police said.

Teen ‘ sexually exploited’ twice on NW Side: police

Police are warning Northwest Side residents after a 14- year- old girl was sexually exploited twice in the Albany Park neighborho­od since May.

In both incidents, the teenage girl was walking when an unknown man approached her in a darkcolore­d sedan, engaged in conversati­on with her and then inappropri­ately touched himself, police said.

This happened about 4 p. m. May 8 in the 3000 block of West Lawrence and again about 5 p. m. Sept. 24 in the 4800 block of North Sacramento, police said.

The man was described as being 30 to 35 years old with a brown complexion, short black hair and a patchy beard, police said. He wore a blue- and- white, short- sleeved, collared shirt.
