Kincade steps up for Grambling

Devante Kincade came off the bench to throw three touchdown passes as Grambling beat Division II Clark Atlanta 31- 20 in the 20th annual Chicago Football Classic at Soldier Field on Saturday, a showcase for historical­ly black colleges and universiti­es as renowned for its Battle of the Bands as for its football.

After starter Geremy Hickbottom was injured in the first quarter, Kincade came on to complete 19 of 31 attempts for 230 yards and three scores.

Clark Atlanta scored first after driving 88 yards in 13 plays. Carlos Saldana kicked a 29- yard field goal to put the Panthers up 3- 0. Kincade answered with a 23- yard pass to Darrell Clark and followed that two minutes later with a 59- yard strike to Jordan Jones to make it 14- 3.

Troy 24, LSU 21

Jordan Chunn ran for 191 yards and a touchdown and the Trojans’ defense forced four turnovers in a road upset of the No. 25 Tigers.

Troy, which celebrated wildly with traveling fans in largely empty Tiger Stadium as time ran out, became the first team from outside the Southeaste­rn Conference to win in LSU’s Death Valley since UAB in 2000. They snapped the Tigers’ streak of 49 home victories over non- league opponents.

Florida 38, Vanderbilt 24

Lamical Perine scored three touchdowns, Malik Davis added two and the No. 21 Gators topped the visiting Commordore­s despite losing quarterbac­k Luke Del Rio for the season with a broken left collarbone. Coach Jim McElwain said Del Rio will have season- ending surgery Monday. It’s the second consecutiv­e year Del Rio failed to make it through the season uninjured.

Stanford 34, Arizona State 24

Bryce Love rushed for a schoolreco­rd 301 yards and three touchdowns, quarterbac­k K. J. Costello passed for one score and the host Cardinal defeated the Sun Devils. • OBITUARY: Former Purdue coach Joe Tiller dies. Page 51 Love had scoring runs of 61, 43 and 59 yards. He has 1,088 yards, the third player since 2004 to eclipse 1,000 in his team’s first five games.

Louisville 55, Murray State 10

In a week full of outside distractio­ns, the No. 17 Cardinals were focused on the field with overwhelmi­ng results. Lamar Jackson had a short but productive day, throwing for 249 yards and three touchdowns in just over a half and Louisville routed the visiting Racers.

Florida State 26, Wake Forest 19

Freshman James Blackman shook off a struggle- filled day to connect with Auden Tate on a 40yard touchdown throw with 53 seconds left, helping the visiting Seminoles rally for their first win.
