Brady, Patriots survive Bucs

-

Tom Brady completed 30 of 40 passes for 303 yards and one touchdown, and the Patriots’ defense showed signs of improvement Thursday night in a 19- 14 road victory over the Buccaneers.

Brady turned the ball over twice — on his first interception in eight regularseason games and a fumble on one of three sacks.

Brady threw a five- yard touchdown pass to Chris Hogan in the second quarter, and Stephen Gostkowski kicked field goals of 27, 23, 45 and 48 yards for the Patriots ( 3- 2).

Jameis Winston ( 26- for45, 334 yards) rallied the Bucs late with an 18- yard touchdown pass to Cameron Brate that trimmed the Patriots’ lead to 16- 14 with 2: 09 left. After a Patriots field goal, he marched the Bucs from his 25 to the Patriots’ 19 before throwing an incompletion on the final play.

Nick Folk missed three field goals for the Bucs ( 2- 2).

Pryor says he heard slurs

The NFL is investigating a claim by Redskins receiver Terrelle Pryor that he was called racist names and cursed at by a fan during the game against the Chiefs on Monday in Kansas City.

Pryor posted on Instagram Story on Wednesday that it got so bad that a league employee had to stand by him from the second quarter on. Pryor apologized to teammates and the organization for “flicking the person off.”

Newton apologizes

Cam Newton apologized in a Twitter video post for sexist comments made to a female reporter Wednesday.

“After careful thought, I understand that my word choice was extremely degrading and disrespectful to women,” the Panthers quarterback said. “To be honest, that was not my intentions. And if you are a person who took offense to what I said, I sincerely apologize to you.”
