QB hurt in No. 2 Clemson’s win

-

Quarterback Kelly Bryant smiled and joked after No. 2 Clemson’s 28- 14 victory Saturday against Wake Forest in Clemson, South Carolina. Whether he still will be smiling later in the week is anyone’s guess.

Bryant suffered a sprained left ankle in the third quarter. He tried to jog a bit on the sidelines after coming out, but the Tigers ( 6- 0, 4- 0 Atlantic Coast Conference) didn’t want to risk more serious damage.

Bryant will be checked by doctors Sunday and go through treatment all week in an effort to get ready to face Syracuse on Friday. He threw for 200 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 39 yards before getting hurt.

‘‘ We’ve been repping three quarterbacks all fall,’’ Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said. ‘‘ Who’s ever ready to go Friday will go. We’ll see what happens.’’

The Tigers beat the Demon Deacons ( 4- 2, 1- 2) for the ninth consecutive time.

Georgia 45, Vanderbilt 14

Nick Chubb ran for 138 yards and two touchdowns, and the No. 5 Bulldogs ( 6- 0, 3- 0) overcame the absence of three defensive starters to wallop the Commodores ( 3- 3, 0- 3) in Southeastern Conference action in Nashville, Tennessee.

Injuries sidelined linebacker Reggie Carter and tackle Trenton Thompson, and linebacker Natrez Patrick stayed home after being arrested Thursday on charges of marijuana possession.

Georgia continued its best start since 2012 and avenged a 17- 16 loss to Vanderbilt last season by winning for the 20th time in the last 23 games in the series.

TCU 31, West Virginia 24

Kenny Hill avoided one defender in the backfield and lunged through two others for a tiebreaking threeyard touchdown run with 2: 53 left, and the No. 8 Horned Frogs ( 5- 0, 2- 0) remained the only undefeated team in the Big 12 by slipping past the No. 23 Mountaineers ( 3- 2, 1- 1) in Fort Worth, Texas.

Hill also threw a 45- yard touchdown pass and was on the receiving end of a 48- yard touchdown pass for TCU. Will Grier threw for 366 yards and three touchdowns for West Virginia.

Miami 24, Florida State 20

Malik Rosier threw a 23- yard touchdown pass to Darrell Langham with six seconds left, and the No. 13 Hurricanes ( 4- 0, 2- 0) edged the intrastate rival Seminoles ( 1- 3, 1- 2) in an Atlantic Coast Conference thriller in Tallahassee to end a seven- game skid in the series.

Florida sets record in loss

No. 21 Florida set an NCAA record by scoring in its 366th consecutive game in a 17- 16 loss to LSU in Gainesville, Florida. The Gators haven’t been shut out since a 16- 0 home loss to Auburn on Oct. 29, 1988.
