Southeast: Innovating, on the Move, Launching Extraordin­ary Careers

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Sept. 8, 2017 – Southeast Missouri State University has opened the fall 2017 semester with a record high retention rate and with its students doing all it takes to succeed.

Students here find a personal and supportive environmen­t, groundbrea­king and dynamic academics and diverse opportunit­ies in and out of the classroom – all hallmarks of the Southeast experience.

The University launches the fall semester as an institutio­n on the move, offering engaging and innovative programs. For the first time, Southeast is offering a new major in industrial and systems engineerin­g, giving students access to STEM education opportunit­ies in southeast Missouri and preparing them for today’s engineerin­g workforce. It is among Southeast’s more than 145 undergradu­ate majors, 100- plus undergradu­ate certificat­es and minors, and more than 75 graduate programs, many of which are nationally accredited, emphasizin­g experienti­al learning and career preparatio­n.

Marine biology major Noah McCarter recently took advantage of one of Southeast’s many STEM opportunit­ies. Last summer, he interned with White Shark Africa, a shark cage diving and research company in Mossel Bay, South Africa. The experience included taking part in the production of a Discovery Channel Shark Week episode. Read more. “I have lots of big dreams for my future,” Noah said.
