PRINCE HARRY TO SPEAK AT OBAMA FOUNDATION SUMMIT

- BY LYNN SWEET

WASHINGTON — Prince Harry — whose girlfriend is a Northwestern University graduate — heads to Chicago this month to speak at the inaugural Obama Foundation summit on Oct. 31, Kensington Palace and the Obama Foundation announced Thursday.

The palace said in a post on Twitter, “HRH will highlight the success of The Royal Foundation’s Full Effect project, and will speak about the power of youth leadership.”

Prince Harry has been dating actress Meghan Markle, who received an undergraduate degree in 2003 from Northwestern. Markle majored in theater and international studies in Northwestern’s School of Communications.

The summit, to take place on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 — and focused on bringing together “young” potential leaders from around the globe — will be headquartered at the Hyatt Hotel on the McCormick Place complex. Some 500 participants are expected. A foundation spokesman said topics at the summit will range “from motivating young people to choose a civic path to technology’s role in creating equitable and inclusive communities.”

Former President Barack Obama was with Prince Harry on Sept. 29 at the Invictus games in Toronto and with him at Kensington Palace on May 27. Michelle Obama has not seen Prince Harry since the end of Obama’s term on Jan. 20.

Other main speakers include Matteo Renzi, Former Prime Minister of Italy; Hamdi Ulukaya, the founder of Chobani; Tod Williams and Billie Tsien, the Obama Presidential Center architects; Elizabeth Alexander, a favorite Obama poet and author; and Chicago famed artist Theaster Gates.
