Cutler rallies Dolphins in win

HIGHLIGHTS

-

Jay Cutler threw third- quarter touchdown passes to Kenny Stills and Jarvis Landry and Cody Parkey drilled two field goals in the fourth quarter to rally the visiting Dolphins past the Falcons 20- 17. The Falcons led 17- 0 at halftime.

“We can’t be satisfied with this game,” said Cutler ( 19- for- 33, 151 yards). “This is a one- week business.”

Dolphins safety Reshad Jones clinched the victory with an interception of Matt Ryan inside the Dolphins’ 10- yard line with 39 seconds left.

“I understood we were in field- goal range to tie the game. I also understood that we had plenty of time on the clock,” said Ryan ( 24- for- 35, 248 yards), who has thrown five interceptions this season, one fewer than he threw all of last season. “It was a throw I felt good about, so I let it rip. Just a good play by them. Sometimes, that’s how it goes.”

Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi gained 130 yards.

Patriots 24, Jets 17

Quarterback Tom Brady ( 20for- 38, 257 yards, two touchdowns) set a league record with his 187th career regular- season victory to lift the visiting Patriots. Brett Favre and Peyton Manning have 186 career victories.

The game was marred by controversy after a Jets touchdown was negated with 8: 24 left. Austin Seferian- Jenkins took a pass from Josh McCown and reached over the goal line for what was initially called a four- yard score.

Officials reviewed the score and said the replay showed that Seferian- Jenkins slightly lost control of the ball when Malcolm Butler nudged it loose as the tight end was crossing the plane of the goal line. Seferian- Jenkins didn’t regain control until after he had stepped out of bounds, resulting in a touchback— despite the ball never hitting the ground.

“I’m pretty sure everybody’s going to look back and say that was a b. s. call,” Jets wide receiver Jermaine Kearse said.

Redskins 26, 49ers 24

Quarterback Kirk Cousins was 25- for- 37 for 330 yards and two touchdowns and added a rushing score to lead the host Redskins, who won despite blowing a 17- point lead.

Niners quarterback Brian Hoyer started the game 4- for- 11 for 34 yards and was benched for C. J. Beathard, a rookie out of Iowa, who finished 19- for- 36 for 245 yards and one touchdown.

The 49ers are the first team in NFL history to lose five consecutive games by three points or fewer — a combined 13 points.

Niners coach Kyle Shanahan said that Beathard will start Sunday against the Cowboys.

Cardinals 38, Buccaneers 33

After being acquired Tuesday from the Saints, Adrian Peterson ran for 134 yards and two touchdowns to lead the host Cardinals.

“This is the opportunity I’ve been waiting for,” Peterson said.

The Bucs lost quarterback Jameis Winston to a right shoulder injury in the second quarter, but backup Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 290 yards and three touchdowns to bring them back.

Steelers 19, Chiefs 13

Le’Veon Bell ran for 179 yards and Antonio Brown made an acrobatic touchdown catch in the fourth quarter as the visiting Steelers gave the Chiefs their first loss.

Brown finished with eight catches for 155 yards. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger finished 17- for- 25 for 252 yards.
