Kaepernick alleges collusion against NFL,
Lawyers for quarterback Colin Kaepernick say he has filed a grievance against the NFL, alleging that he remains unsigned as a result of collusion by owners.
Mark Geragos, one of Kaepernick’s attorneys, tweeted out a statement Sunday saying he filed the grievance “only after pursuing every possible avenue with all NFL teams and their executives.”
NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart said the league had no comment.
Kaepernick has remained unsigned after opting out of his contract with the 49ers in March. General manager John Lynch said the quarterback would have been cut had he not opted to do so.
Kaepernick has remained in the spotlight after kneeling during the national anthem throughout last season to protest police brutality and racial inequality. Protests became more widespread throughout the league after President Donald
Trump condemned players who do not stand during the anthem. Seven 49ers players knelt during the anthem Sunday against the Redskins.
MLS Fire move into third place
Nemanja Nikolic scored two of his three goals in the second half, increasing his league- leading total to 24, and the Fire rallied for a 3- 2 win over the Philadelphia Union at Toyota Park. The Fire ( 16- 10- 7) moved into third in the Eastern Conference, which would be good for a home game in the playoffs. Nikolic is four goals ahead of pursuers for the Golden Boot with one game to play.
MISCELLANEOUS Keselowski wins at Talladega
Brad Keselowski earned an automatic berth into the third round of the NASCAR playoffs with a victory at Talladega, Alabama. There were just 14 cars running at the conclusion, and only four were playoff drivers. The race was red- flagged three times for nearly 35 minutes.
The Cavaliers still have not said whether LeBron James ( ankle) will play in the season opener Tuesday against the visiting Celtics.
Roger Federer extended his winning streak over Rafael Nadal this year to four matches after beating the top- ranked Spaniard 6- 4, 6- 3 to win the Shanghai Masters.
