Pitino files suit against Adidas

Former Louisville coach Rick Pitino is suing Adidas, saying the sportswear maker ‘‘ outrageously conspired’’ to funnel money to the family of a Cardinals recruit without his knowledge.
Pitino’s lawsuit was filed Tuesday, a day after the Louisville Athletic Association fired him for cause after acknowledging the school’s involvement in a federal bribery investigation of college basketball. Hours after Pitino was fired Monday, Adidas terminated its personal- services agreement with him.
Pitino’s lawsuit says Adidas’ activities made it appear he was aware of the bribery practices. The suit seeks a jury trial and compensatory and punitive damages.
