Wild’s Parise out two more months
The Wild said left wing
Zach Parise, who hasn’t played this season, will miss at least two more months after having surgery on his back.
The Wild said Tuesday that Parise had a microdiscectomy, a procedure designed to repair a herniated disk and alleviate corresponding pain and weakness in nearby parts of the body. Parise said this month the injury he was dealing with was not to his back, but he declined to specify his issue.
‘‘ I’ll let all the doctors handle it, but I’m glad he made a decision,’’ coach Bruce Boudreau said. The Panthers claimed former Blackhawks goalie
Antti Niemi off waivers because starter Roberto Luongo is sidelined with an injury to his right hand.
The Panthers claimed Niemi a day after he was waived by the Penguins, for whom he allowed 16 goals in three games. Niemi is on his third team in four months and fourth since winning the 2010 Stanley Cup with the Hawks. Capitals forward Andre
Burakovsky will miss six to eight weeks after having surgery to repair a fractured left thumb suffered Saturday against the Panthers.
NBA Suns forward fined $ 35K
The NBA fined Suns forward Josh Jackson $ 35,000 for ‘‘ making a menacing gesture’’ on the court and ‘‘ directing inappropriate language at a fan’’ Saturday against the Clippers.
Video appeared to show Jackson forming a pretend gun with his fingers and pointing it at the fan, but he disputed that characterization. He said he intended to flip his middle finger at the fan but decided against it, leading to his hand appearing to be a pretend gun.
The NBA fined Jazz swingman Joe Ingles $ 15,000 for hitting Thunder center
Steven Adams in the groin Saturday. Ingles appeared to strike Adams from the side with his left hand while Adams was guarding Jazz center Rudy Gobert. Hawks swingman De
Andre’ Bembry is expected to miss four to six weeks after having surgery to repair a fractured right wrist suffered in the team’s season opener last Wednesday against the Mavericks.
