Eagles lose two starters for season
The Eagles said nine- time Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters and linebacker Jordan Hicks will miss the rest of the season with injuries suffered in the team’s victory Monday against the Redskins.
Peters suffered torn anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his right knee, and Hicks suffered a ruptured right Achilles tendon.
‘‘ Both of them are obviously significant,’’ coach Doug Pederson said Tuesday. ‘‘ They will be missed. . . . It’s definitely the next- man- up [ mentality]. We still have a lot of football left.’’
Peters has anchored the Eagles’ offensive line for a decade. He’s a team leader, and teammates showed their respect by surrounding the cart before it took him off the field.
Hicks is a top playmaker on defense. He has seven interceptions and five fumble recoveries in 31 games.
Lynch’s appeal denied
Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch’s appeal of his onegame suspension for shoving an official was denied, and he willmiss the team’s game Sunday against the Bills.
Appeals officer James Thrash, who was appointed jointly by the NFL and the players’ union, upheld Lynch’s one- game ban without pay.
Lynch was suspended for coming off the sideline during a scuffle in the second quarter and shoving a game official during the Raiders’ victory Thursday against the Chiefs. The ban will cost him more than $ 100,000 in salary and pergame roster bonuses.
With Lynch sidelined, the Raiders will rely heavily on second- year backs Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington against the Bills. Richard has rushed for 158 yards on 35 carries and Washington for 53 yards on 23 carries this season.
Thomas has triceps surgery
Browns offensive tackle Joe Thomas had surgery to repair the torn left triceps he suffered Sunday against the Titans, an injury that ended his consecutive- plays streak at 10,363.
Thomas, a 10- time Pro Bowl selection, hadn’t missed a snap since he was drafted in 2007 before being hurt against the Titans. He said Monday he would wait until after the season before deciding whether to keep playing or retire.
