Texans have discussed signing Kap
Texans coach Bill O’Brien said Monday that he and general manager Rick Smith have discussed signing freeagent quarterback Colin Kaepernick in the wake of the season- ending knee injury Deshaun Watson suffered during practice last week.
When asked about Kaepernick after backup Tom Savage struggled in the Texans’ loss Sunday to the Colts, O’Brien said: ‘‘ We talk about the roster and what’s out there every day, Rick and I.’’
O’Brien then was pressed about whether they specifically have talked about adding Kaepernick.
‘‘ Oh, yeah, everybody gets discussed,’’ he said. ‘‘ Is that a problem? Isn’t that the way most teams do it? People seem shocked by that.’’
Kaepernick began the national- anthem protests by kneeling last season with the 49ers. He remains unsigned and has filed a grievance that alleges team owners have colluded against him because of the protests.
Bucs’ Winston out 2weeks
The Buccaneers said they are shutting down quarterback Jameis Winston for at least two weeks with the hope his injured right ( throwing) shoulder improves.
Winston sat out the second half of the Bucs’ loss Sunday to the Saints after being sacked late in the second quarter and landing on the shoulder he first hurt Oct. 15. He has made 40 consecutive starts to begin his career, but coach Dirk Koetter said Ryan Fitzpatrick will start Sunday against the Jets.
Bucs’ Evans banned 1game
The NFL suspended Bucs receiver Mike Evans for one game for unsportsmanlike conduct and unnecessary roughness in the team’s game Sunday against the Saints.
Evans ran up from behind and knocked over Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore after a confrontation between Lattimore and Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston.
Bengals’ Green avoids ban
The NFL said Bengals receiver A. J. Green faces a fine but no suspension for his on- field fight Sunday with Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Green grabbed Ramsey around the neck, threw him to the ground and punched him in the helmet. Both players were ejected.
Broncos staying with Brock
Broncos coach Vance Joseph said he’ll stick with Brock Osweiler at quarterback despite the two interceptions he threw in a blowout loss Sunday to the Eagles.
