Newton’s 4 TD passes spark Panthers’ rout
Cam Newton passed for 254 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 95 more, and the Panthers piled up a franchise- record 548 yards in a 45- 21 rout of the visiting Dolphins on ‘‘ Monday Night Football.’’
Christian McCaffrey scored two touchdowns — one rushing and one receiving — and Devin Funchess caught two touchdown passes as the Panthers ( 7- 3) remained a half- game behind the NFC Southleading Saints entering their bye.
Jonathan Stewart ran for a season- high 110 yards, and Newton had a 69- yard jaunt on a read option as the Panthers racked up 294 yards on the ground.
Jay Cutler passed for 213 yards with two touchdowns and one interception for the Dolphins ( 4- 5), who have lost three games in a row.
Giants’McAdoo safe for now
Ben McAdoo will remain the coach of the Giants at least until the end of the season.
Co- owners JohnMara and Steve Tisch said they are frustrated and disappointed with the Giants’ 1- 8 record, but they won’t evaluate the team or make any moves until the end of the season.
McAdoo’s future has been a major topic in thewake of a 34- point loss Nov. 5 to the Rams, then an embarrassing loss Sunday to a 49ers team that had been winless.
Quarterback news
Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers is in the NFL’s concussion protocol after experiencing symptoms from a head injury suffered Sunday against the Jaguars. Rivers has made 194 consecutive starts since 2006. Kellen Clemens is Rivers’ backup.
Broncos coach Vance Joseph said quarterback Brock Osweiler will start Sunday against the Bengals despite turning in a second consecutive shaky outing in a loss Sunday to the Patriots. The Broncos are 0- 2 since Osweiler replaced turnover- prone Trevor Siemian.
Jets coach Todd Bowles said he is sticking with veteran Josh McCown as his quarterback because he gives the team a better chance to win than youngsters Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg.

An NFL spokesman said Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict won’t be suspended but will face a fine for pushing an official’s arm out of the way on the sideline Sunday against the Titans. Burfict was ejected for the contact.
Browns linebacker Jamie Collins will miss the rest of the season with a torn medial collateral ligament in his right knee suffered while returning an interception Sunday against the Lions.
The Chiefs waived defensive tackle Roy Miller after he was arrested early Saturday in Jacksonville, Florida, on charges he assaulted his wife during an argument at their home.
