OFF- DUTY COP FIRES SHOTS DURING ATTEMPTED ROBBERY

No one was injured when an off- duty Chicago Police officer fired shots during an attempted armed robbery Friday night in the Beverly neighborho­od on the Far South Side.

The officer was walking at 7: 04 p. m. in the 2200 block of West 101st Street when amale approached and demanded money at gunpoint, according to preliminar­y informatio­n from Chicago Police. The officer then fired shots, and the suspect ran off.

CPD: Murders, shootings down for 9th straight month

For the ninth straight month this year, Chicago saw a reduction in gun violence in November, the police department announced early Friday.

There were 193 shooting victims last month, compared to 390 victims in November 2016, marking a decline of more than 50 percent, according to Chicago Police statistics. There were 147 fewer shooting incidents— 168 in November 2017, compared to 315 in the same month last year— representi­ng a 47 percent decline.

The department also touted a 20 percent decline in shooting victims for the year, 3,260 so far in 2017, compared to 4,058 in the same time frame in 2016. The city has reported 2,612 shooting incidents so far in 2017, compared to 3,315 in 2016— a21 percent reduction. Sun- TimesWire

Shortly before 3 p. m. on Friday, a male suspect walked into the Chase bank branch at 300 Northwest Highway in Cary, went to the teller desk and presented a note demandingm­oney, according to Cary police and FBI spokesman Garrett Croon.

It was unknown howmuch money the robber took. No one was injured.

The suspectwas described as a light- skinned, possibly white, male standing about 5- foot- 8 with a thin build, police said. Hewasweari­ng light blue shoes withwhite soles, blue jeans, a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood on his head, a camouflage baseball cap, sunglasses, black knit gloves and a long, dark brown or black wig.

U. of I. expands guaranteed admission with City Colleges

The University of Illinois has expanded its guaranteed admission program with City Colleges of Chicago.

U. of I. President Tim Killeen announced Thursday that eligible City Colleges alumni will be guaranteed admission at any of the three campuses of the state’s flagship university.

The agreement guarantees U. of I. admission to any City Colleges studentwho meets the requiremen­ts of the desired campus and completes the necessary community college credits. City Colleges transfers also will be able to compete for five $ 2,500- a- year scholarshi­ps for up to two years.
