DePaul rolls past Youngstown State

Max Strus had 20 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals to fuel DePaul to an 89- 73 victory Saturday against Youngstown State at Wintrust Arena.

Strus was 8- for- 12 shooting, including three three- pointers, for the Blue Demons ( 3- 4), who put five players in double figures. Marin Maric and Tre’Darius McCallum each added 17 points, Eli Cain 15 and Brandon Cyrus 12 for DePaul, which shot 57.6 percent and never trailed.

Braun Hartfield scored 23 points to lead the Penguins ( 2- 7), who are on a five- game losing streak.

Loyola 85, UIC 61

Aundre Jackson scored 23 points on 10- for- 11 shooting, and the Ram- blers ( 8- 1) opened a 28- point halftime lead en route to coasting past the Flames ( 2- 5) at Gentile Arena.

Lucas Williamson added 14 points and Clayton Custer 10 for Loyola, which shot 55 percent. Marcus Ottey scored 16 points and Dikembe Dixson and Dominique Matthews 14 each for UIC, which lost its fourth consecutiv­e game.

Michigan 69, Indiana 55

Jordan Poole scored 19 points, and the Wolverines ( 7- 2, 1- 0) opened the game with a 16- 2 spurt on their way to defeating the Hoosiers ( 4- 4, 0- 1) in the Big Ten opener for both teams in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Juwan Morgan scored 24 points for Indiana, which played No. 1 Duke tough in a home loss Wednes- day but looked flat at the start against Michigan.

Ohio State 83, Wisconsin 58

Kaleb Wesson led a balanced attack with 19 points, and the Buckeyes ( 6- 3, 1- 0) shot 66 percent on their way to walloping the Badgers ( 3- 5, 0- 1) in the Big Ten opener for both teams in Madison, Wisconsin.

Keita Bates- Diop added 17 points and 11 rebounds and Jae’Sean Tate 16 points on 7- for- 8 shooting for Ohio State. Brad Davison led Wisconsin with 16 points.

Penn State 77, Iowa 73

Lamar Stevens scored 22 points and Mike Watkins 19, and the Nittany Lions ( 7- 2, 1- 0) held off the Hawkeyes ( 4- 4, 0- 1) in the Big Ten opener for both teams in Iowa City. It was Penn State’s first road victory in the series since 2001.

Tyler Cook had 23 points and 12 rebounds for Iowa, which lost for the fourth time in its last five games.

S. C. State guard collapses

South Carolina State guard Ty Solomon collapsed on the court and was taken to a hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina, during the first half of the Bulldogs’ loss at North Carolina State. A hospital spokeswoma­n said he was in fair condition.

Emergency medical personnel administer­ed chest compressio­ns before Solomon was taken off the court on a stretcher. The game resumed after a 40- minute delay.
