Cardinals land All- Star OF Ozuna

The Marlins traded All- Star left fielder Marcell Ozuna to the Cardinals for right- handed pitching prospect Sandy Alcantara, outfielder Magneuris Sierra, right- hander Zac Gallen and lefty Daniel Castano, according to the Miami Herald.

Ozuna, 27, set personal bests in 2017 with a .312 batting average, 37 home runs and 124 RBI, which ranked third in the National League.

The Marlins also released injured right- hander Edinson Volquez ( Tommy John surgery), but might bring him back on a minor- league contract. The Marlins are still responsibl­e for Volquez’s $ 13 million salary in 2018.

Kinsler headed to Angels

The Angels reportedly acquired veteran second baseman Ian Kinsler from the Tigers. Kinsler, 35, was the most establishe­d second baseman available. He hit .236 with a .725 OPS, 22 home runs and 52 RBI in 139 games with the Tigers in 2017. A four- time All- Star, Kinsler has hit .273 with a .789 OPS and averaged 23 home runs over 12 seasons.

The Mets agreed to a two- year, $ 14 million contract with former White Sox reliever Anthony Swarzak.

The Twins agreed to a two- year, $ 10 million contract with former Yankees right- hander Michael Pineda. He will miss most or all of 2018 as he recovers from Tommy John surgery.

The Mariners agreed to a twoyear, $ 17 million deal with righthande­d reliever Juan Nicasio.

Agent Scott Boras said that Bryce Harper and the Nationals have opened talks on an extension.

Bob Costas won the Ford C. Frick Award presented by the baseball Hall of Fame for broadcasti­ng excellence.
