Seahawks fined for concussion violation
The Seahawks were fined $ 100,000 for violating the concussion protocol with quarterback Russell Wilson on Nov. 9 in a game against the Cardinals.
The Seahawks were the first team to receive a monetary fine under the policy, according to NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart, who said commissioner Roger Goodell made the call on the punishment in conjunction with the NFL Players Association.
Because of the incident, the league said it will revise its policy, instructing officials, teammates and coaching staffs to take players directly to a member of the medical team for an assessment once the protocol has been triggered.
Refs can’t use index cards
The NFL has instructed its officials to no longer employ paper as a tool during the process of measuring a first down, days after referee Gene Steratore stirred controversy by using an index card during the Cowboys’ 2017 victory over the Raiders.
Steratore placed the card between the tip of the football and the end of the firstdown marker before signaling that the Cowboys had converted a key fourth down on their game- winning drive.
NFL prefers Panthers stay
The NFL said it isn’t forcing Panthers owner Jerry Richardson to sell the team while he is under investigation for sexual and racial misconduct in the workplace.
Lockhart said Richardson “came to the conclusion that putting his team up for sale was what he wanted to do. We found out about it shortly before the announcement.”
Richardson announced Sunday that he plans to put the organization up for sale after the season. The league said its first choice is to keep the team in Charlotte under new ownership.
This and that
Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon, in his first public comments since being accused of sexual harassment by an assistant for his sports- marketing firm, denied the allegations and said he had “witnesses that would testify” to their inaccuracy.
The Saints put Kenny Vaccaro ( groin) on injured reserve, ending the starting safety’s season.
Vikings left tackle Riley Reiff ’s sprained ankle has improved, and he’s questionable to play at Green Bay.
