No. 2 Michigan State prevails in laugher

Nick Ward scored 21 points, Miles Bridges had 19 points and 21 rebounds and No. 2 Michigan State rolled to a 108- 52 rout Sunday of Savannah State in East Lansing, Michigan.

The Spartans ( 14- 1) put six players in double figures on their way to reaching 100 points in four consecutiv­e games for the first time in school history. They did so while shooting 63 percent from the field and holding the Tigers ( 3- 12) scoreless for the last 8: 50 of the game.

Michigan State, which finished the game on a 32- 0 run, likely will take over the No. 1 spot when the new Associated Press Top 25 is released. No. 1 Villanova lost Saturday to Butler.

Marcus Foster led five players in double figures with 18 points to sparkNo. 25 Creighton past Providence 83- 64 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Toby Hegner matched his season high with 15 points for the Bluejays ( 11- 3, 1- 1 Big East), who bounced back from a road loss to Seton Hall in their conference opener to beat the Friars ( 10- 5, 1- 1) for the first time in four tries in Omaha.

Nate Watson scored 20 points to lead Providence, which was 3- for- 23 from three- point range.

Duke said freshman small forward Jordan Tucker will transfer. He had appeared in only two games, playing a total of 14 minutes, for the Blue Devils.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL N. Carolina LB going pro

North Carolina said junior linebacker Andre Smith will forgo his senior season to enter the NFL draft. He made a combined 14 starts at middle linebacker in 2016 and 2017 before suffering a season- ending injury in September against Louisville.

Stanford’s David Shaw won the Bobby Dodd Trophy as coach of the year. The award honors scholarshi­p, leadership and integrity, as well as success on the field.

NBA Thunder’s Patterson fined

The NBA fined Thunder forward Patrick Patterson $ 10,000 for publicly complainin­g about the officiatin­g during the 2017- 18 season.

It stems from a post Patterson made on Twitter, writing Saturday: ‘‘ There needs to be some kind of consequenc­e for their downright awfulness rather than pointless apologies from their bosses. # dobetter.’’
