Calcagno still weighing his options

The first college football early signing period is in the books, but that doesn’t mean recruiting is over for the Class of 2018. There are still seniors who remain uncommitted and will make a decision closer to the traditional signing day in early February.

Nick Calcagno, a senior wide receiver atNapervilleNorth, is one of those players.

“Recruiting is going well, it’s starting to pick up a little bit now,” Calcagno said. “I have five FCS offers and Northern Illinois, and I was offered by Kent State on Sunday.

“I still stay in contact with Northern Illinois a lot. Besides NIU and Kent State, Marshall also has started to show a little interest.”

With plenty of interest, the 6- 3, 205- pound athlete knows he can excel at the next level.

“I believe I’m a great playmaker,” Calcagno said. “I want the ball in pressure situations. I am a great route runner, and I know how to get open. I am also very versatile on both sides of the ball. On offense, I can play receiver, slot, tight end and H- back. On defense, I can play linebacker or rush end. I play both the run and pass well. I bring a ton of versatility and flexibility to a team.”

Calcagno chose to remain unsigned and uncommitted through the early signing period because he wasn’t ready to make a decision.

“I’m just waiting it out and seeing what comes up during this next month and will probably make my decision at the end of January,” Calcagno said. “I want to have the right feeling when I step onto the campus. Also having a good connection with the coaching staff along with good academics is big for me.”

Calcagno plans to make at least one more visit.

“I’ll most likely be taking an official to Kent State [ in] mid- January, but besides that, I have nothing set up as of right now,” Calcagno said.

The recruiting process has been fun for Calcagno, even as it starts to come to an end.

“I enjoyed getting out and seeing a bunch of different schools and also meeting a ton of great people along the way,” Calcagno said.

GlenbardNorth senior defensive back Tyrik Henderson is another highly touted recruit who plans to sign in February.
