ND’s Colson out 8 weeks

Notre Dame All- America forward Bonzie Colson suffered a fractured left foot in practice this week and is expected to miss two months, the school announced Tuesday. He will undergo surgery Thursday.

Colson earned third- team All- America honors last season and was putting up career- high numbers across the board as a senior. He was averaging 21.4 points and 10.4 rebounds, adding 2.4 blocks and 2.0 steals.

Dererk Pardon had 17 points and a season- high 15 rebounds, but Northweste­rn shot just 29 percent from the field in a 70- 55 loss to Nebraska at Allstate Arena.

TheWildcat­s ( 10- 6, 1- 2 Big Ten) were leading by seven in the second half whenNebras­ka went on a 16- 5 run to go up 41- 36. Vic Law cut it to 41- 40 with a basket and two free throws, but the Cornhusker­s pulled away after that.

Max Strus had 19 points, but DePaul lost 90- 81 to Georgetown at Wintrust Arena. Strus scored seven consecutiv­e points to start a 16- 7 run in the second half, capped by Marin Maric’s dunk, as the Blue Demons ( 7- 8, 0- 3 Big East) closed to 61- 60 with 9: 44 left. But the Hoyas answered by scoring 11 points in a row.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL Thorson has torn ACL

Northweste­rn quarterbac­k Clayton Thorson suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in the Music City Bowl. There is no timetable for his return.

Thorson, who announced last month he would return for his senior season, was injured catching a pass on a trick play.

Arizona fired coach Rich Rodriguez after a notice of claim was filed with the state attorney general’s office alleging he ran a hostile workplace. Rodriguez issued a statement, saying the investigat­ion concerned a former administra­tive assistant who threatened a $ 7.5 million lawsuit alleging harassment.

Kansas State coach Bill Snyder reportedly will return for his 27th season.

NFL Bengals extend Lewis

The Bengals signed coach Marvin Lewis to a two- year deal through the 2019 season. The agreement came after a second consecutiv­e losing season. Cardinals quarterbac­k Carson Palmer announced his retirement after 14 seasons. Palmer missed the last nine games of this season with a broken left arm.

Vikings quarterbac­k Sam Bradford ( knee) returned to practice.

NBA Thomas makes Cavs debut

Isaiah Thomas made his debut for the Cavaliers, who downed the visiting Trail Blazers 127- 110. Thomas scored 17 points in 19 minutes in his first game since May 19, when a serious hip injury ended his postseason with the Celtics.

Gregg Popovich took sole possession of fifth place on the NBA’s coaching wins list after the Spurs defeated the host Knicks 100- 91.
