McDonald, Mary Mix
92, long- time resident of Lincolnwood, IL, peacefully passed away in New Berlin, NY, on Tuesday, December 12, 2017. Mary was born June 1, 1925, in Chicago, IL, to Dr. Bronislaus John and Armella Hellmuth Mix. An accomplished politician, Mary was a Commissioner of the Cook County Board and the Forest Preserve District for 20 years, and an RTA Board Director for 12 years.
With a multifaceted life including activity as a socialite, harpist, philanthropist, champion & mentor of women, world traveler, nature lover and student of art history, Mary had a passion for intellectual pursuits and was only a phone call away for cogent problem solving. She will be profoundly missed.
Mary is survived by her children, Gerald Owen McDonald, Jr., Sandra McDonald Jones ( Willis) and Elizabeth McDonald Wakeman ( Steven); her grandchildren, Alexandra Jones Hayne ( Brian), Bryant Jones ( Elizabeth), Meredith McDonald Inniger ( Matthew) and Elizabeth Ann Jones; her great- grandchildren, William and Christopher Hayne; her brother, B. John Mix, Jr. and his children and grandchildren; her brother, Joseph A. Mix ( Delinda) and their children and grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her sister Elizabeth Mix Valantiejus and her former husband Dr. Gerald Owen McDonald.
Visitation hours will be from 4- 8 p. m. on Thursday, January 18, 2017 at Smith Corcoran
Funeral Home, 6150 N. Cicero Ave., Chicago, IL; Funeral Mass at 10 a. m. on January 19, 2017, at St. Mary of the Woods, 7033 N. Moselle Ave., Chicago, IL, with internment immediately following at St. Adalbert Cemetery Chapel, 6800 N. Milwaukee Ave., Niles, IL.
