Say what? QB Wilson traded to Yankees
Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson was traded Wednesday — from the Rangers to the Yankees.
The Rangers selected Wilson, 29, in the Class AAA portion of the Rule 5 draft during the Winter Meetings in December 2013, about two months before he led the Seahawks to a victory against the Broncos in the Super Bowl. The Rangers traded Wilson to the Yankees for future considerations.
Wilson, an infielder, hit .229 in two seasons in the low minors in the Rockies’ system in 2010- 11.
Infielder Yolmer Sanchez, 25, won his salary- arbitration hearing against the White Sox and will receive $ 2.35 million in 2018. The Sox had offered $ 2.1 million.
Sanchez, a switch- hitter who plays second base, third base and shortstop, hit .267 with 19 doubles, eight triples, 12 home runs and 59 RBI in 141 games last season, his fourth with the Sox.
Former Yankees manager Joe Girardi was hired by MLB Network as a studio analyst. Girardi, who played college ball at Northwestern, was fired after 10 seasons as the Yankees’ manager in October.
Major League Baseball suspended Nationals catcher Raudy Read for the first 80 games of the season after he tested positive for the performance- enhancing drug Boldenone.
LeBron wins it for Cavs in OT
LeBron James sank a fadeaway jumper off an inbounds pass as time expired to lift the host Cavaliers past the Timberwolves 140- 138 in overtime. James notched a triple- double with 37 points, 15 assists and 10 rebounds. Jimmy Butler scored 35 points for the Timberwolves.
Multiple outlets reported the Clippers and guard Lou Williams agreed to terms on a three- year contract extension. ESPN reported the deal is worth $ 24 million. Williams is averaging a career- high 23.3 points this season.
The game between the Pacers and Pelicans in New Orleans was postponed after a nearly two- hour delay because of a leaky roof that allowed rain to puddle on the court.
MISCELLANEOUS Charges filed in death of Colts LB
Prosecutors in Indianapolis filed felony charges against Manuel Orrego- Savala, an immigrant illegally living in the United States, who is suspected in a drunken- driving crash that killed Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson and his Uber driver Sunday.
Orrego- Savala, a Guatemalan who twice has been deported from the United States, is charged with causing death while driving intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident. Court documents allege a blood test determined Orrego- Savala had a bloodalcohol level of .19 percent, more than double Indiana’s legal limit for driving.
Cowboys quarterback- turnedNFL analyst Tony Romo will make his PGA Tour debut next month in the Dominican Republic. Romo received a sponsor’s exemption to play in the tournament March 22- 25.
The NHL suspended Senators forward Alex Burrows for 10 games for being the aggressor in an altercation with Devils forward Taylor Hall during a game Tuesday.
Wild defenseman Jonas Brodin will miss three to four weeks with a broken left hand suffered Tuesday against the Blues.
