Gossage has choice words for Cashman

-

Hall of Fame closer Goose Gossage won’t be invited to Yankees spring training, and he let loose with a stream of expletives toward general manager Brian Cashman.

Gossage blasted Cashman to the New York Daily News, saying he isn’t “a big fan” of the Yankees’ longtime GM.

“Well, with power, is that what happens to you, you turn into a [ expletive] a-- hole?” Gossage told the Daily News. “Is that it? I don’t know.”

The YES Network was first to report Monday that Gossage, who spent seven of his 22 major- league seasons with the Yankees, would not be in camp as a guest instructor.

When contacted by the Daily News, Gossage told the newspaper that George Steinbrenner is “rolling over in his grave” and said that the late Yankees owner would have fired Cashman “10 years ago.”

“He would’ve been gone 10 years ago if George was still around,” Gossage said. “Do you think he’s a good [ expletive] baseball guy, really? He doesn’t believe in [ expletive] coaching.”

More arbitration cases

Blue Jays right- hander Marcus Stroman and Rays right- hander Jake Odorizzi went to hearings to begin the final week of what could be the busiest salary- arbitration season since 1990.

Stroman asked for a raise from $ 3.4 million to $ 6.9 million. The Jays argued he should be paid $ 6.5 million. Odorizzi requested a hike from $ 4.1 million to $ 6.3 million instead of the Rays’ $ 6.05 million offer.

The players lead 7- 6, with eight additional hearings scheduled. The 23 decisions would be the most since players won 14 of 24 cases in 1990.

This and that

The Padres have been in regular contact with agent Scott Boras regarding his client Eric Hosmer, according to the Athletic. The Padres and Royals, the only team Hosmer has played for, have made initial seven- year offers, the Padres’ bid reportedly for less than $ 140 million.

The Cardinals agreed to a one- year contract with right- hander Bud Norris, according to reports. The deal guarantees Norris $ 3 million and is laden with incentives. Norris also might have the chance to start.

The Nationals acquired utility player Matt Reynolds from the Mets for cash. Reynolds made his major- league debut with the Mets in 2016.

The Rangers reportedly agreed to a minor- league contract with former Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe.
