LeBron calls NCAA ‘ corrupt’ in wake of scandals
In light of the federal investigation into college basketball recruiting, Cavaliers star LeBron James called the NCAA a “corrupt” organization and said the NBA should further develop its minor- league system to give young ballplayers a viable alternative.
“I don’t know if there’s any fixing the NCAA. I don’t think there is,” James said Tuesday. “It’s what’s been going on for many, many, many, many years. I don’t know how you can fix it. I don’t see how you can fix it.”
James became the oldest player in NBA history to average a tripledouble for amonth in the Cavaliers’ 129- 123 over the visiting Nets on Tuesday night. He scored 31 points, had 12 rebounds and 11 assists for his 12th triple- double of the season and 67th of his career.
A U. S. appeals court says an iconic Nike logo of a leaping Michael Jordan didn’t violate the copyright of an earlier photograph of the basketball star. The logo was based on a photograph taken by someone hired by Nike. It said a 1984 photo by someone else is unmistakably different in key elements.
Catch rule could be changing
The NFL competition committee reached a “unanimous” agreement that some of the league’s most debated catch controversies should be ruled complete in the future, according to committee member and Giants owner John Mara. They include plays involving Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant in the 2014 playoffs and Lions receiver Calvin Johnson in 2010, Mara said, and have prompted a discussion toward rewriting the rule for the 2018 season.
The Packers have already made progress toward a new contract for Aaron Rodgers, even though he is signed through 2019.
The Lions designated defensive end Ezekiel Ansah as their franchise player.

Bruins’ Bergeron fractures foot
Bruins leading goal scorer Patrice Bergeron is out with a fractured right foot and will be evaluated in two weeks. Bergeron has appeared in 55 games this season and has 27 goals and 27 assists.
Penguins forward Patric Hornqvist signed a five- year, $ 26.5 million contract extension.
