Boahen jumper lifts Flames

Godwin Boahen ( 16 points) hit a jumper with 1.4 seconds remaining to lift UIC past Austin Peay 83- 81 in a quarterfin­al game of the CollegeIns­ider. com Postseason Tournament on Wednesday in Clarksvill­e, Tennessee. The Flames ( 19- 15), who won their ninth consecutiv­e road game, will play in the semifinals Wednesday.

Tarkus Ferguson scored 21 points and Marcus Ottey added 17 for the Flames, who trailed by 14 until Boahen sank a three to spark the comeback with 15: 52 left in the second half.

Terry Taylor had 31 points and 12 rebounds for the Governors ( 19- 15).

Louisville dismissed David Padgett after one season as interim coach. Padgett went 22- 14 after being promoted from assistant coach. He replaced Rick Pitino after the school placed the Hall of Fame coach on unpaid administra­tive leave because of a federal probe.

Arizona’s 7- 1, 260- pound freshman Deandre Ayton will enter the NBA draft. The Pac- 12 player of the year averaged 20.1 points ( on 61 percent shooting) and 11.6 rebounds.

Cavs top visiting Raptors

LeBron James scored 35 points and added 17 assists, his last setting up a late threepoint­er by Kevin Love, and the Cavaliers ended the Raptors’ nine- game road winning streak with a 132- 129 victory.

“It’s a good win for us because of how depleted we are on our roster and everything that’s been going on,” James said. “It’s a good win for us against a very good opponent. But I don’t need to remind anybody about what my teams are capable of doing.”

Dwight Howard had 32 points and 30 rebounds in the visiting Hornets’ 111- 105 victory against the Nets, becoming the first player with a 30- 30 game against the Nets since Kareem Abdul- Jabbar in 1978.

DeAndre Jordan had 25 points and 22 rebounds to lead the visiting Clippers to a 127- 120 victory over the Bucks, who lost Giannis Antetokoun­mpo to a right ankle sprain.

No Chief Wahoo for Thome

The baseball Hall of Fame says it no longer will use the Cleveland Indians’ Chief Wahoo logo for plaques of new members. Former Cleveland slugger Jim Thome was elected in January and said he wanted a block C logo on his plaque when it is unveiled in July. Thome said it was “the right thing to do.”

The A’s signed left- hander Brett Anderson to a minorleagu­e contract that could be worth $ 1.5 million if he stays in the majors. He pitched for the Cubs and Blue Jays last year, going 4- 4 with a 6.34 ERA in 13 starts and 55⅓ innings.

Serena Williams lost in the first round of the Miami Open, losing 6- 3, 6- 2 to Naomi Osaka, who was coming off her first career title Sunday at Indian Wells. Osaka, 20, is ranked a career- best 22nd, while Williams’ ranking is 491st after her layoff of more than a year.
