Late goal helps Fire salvage tie vs. Timbers

Brandon Vincent scored the tying goal in the 84th minute to help the Fire earn a 2- 2 draw Saturday against the Portland Timbers in Major League Soccer action at Toyota Park. Nemanja Nikolic scored in the 50th minute for the Fire ( 0- 2- 1), who also got two assists from Bastian Schweinste­iger. Diego Valeri scored in the sixth minute and Sebastian Blanco in the 55th for the Timbers.

BASKETBALL 13 named to Hall of Fame class

Former NBA stars Ray Allen, Maurice Cheeks, Grant Hill, Jason Kidd and Steve Nash and former Bulls general manager Rod Thorn are among the 13- member class that will be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in September. The announceme­nt was made at the Final Four in San Antonio. The 76ers said center Joel Embiid had surgery to repair the broken orbital bone around his left eye and will be re- evaluated next week. Embiid was hurt when teammate Markelle Fultz accidental­ly head- butted him during a game Wednesday against the Knicks. Xavier promoted top assistant Travis Steele to replace Chris Mack as its men’s coach. Steele had been an assistant with the Musketeers for 10 seasons, the last 10 under Mack, who left Wednesday to become the coach at Louisville.

Newly released tax documents show Baylor paid former football coach Art Briles more than $ 15 million after firing him in 2016 in the wake of a sexual- assault scandal that included allegation­s against his former players and rocked his program.

HOCKEY Wolves beaten in shootout

Brian Flynn and Travis Morin scored in the shootout to give the Texas Stars a 2- 1 victory against the Wolves ( 38- 21- 7- 3) in American Hockey League play at Allstate Arena.

Brandon Pirri scored the lone goal for the Wolves in the second period.

GOLF Poulter, Hossler tied for Houston lead

Ian Poulter, seeking his first PGA Tour victory since 2012, shot a 7- under- par 65 and Beau Hossler a 3- under 69 to share the lead after the third round of the Houston Open in Humble, Texas. Both were at 14- under 202.
