Record day for Yanks’ Gregorius

Didi Gregorius hit two three- run home runs and drove in a career- high eight runs, and the Yankees overcame five strikeouts by Giancarlo Stanton to win their home opener by drubbing the Rays 11- 4 on Tuesday.

Gregorius, who set a Yankees record for RBI by a shortstop in a game and a majorleagu­e record for RBI by a player in a home opener, had a double in the second inning, three- run homers in the third and seventh and a two- run single in the eighth. He got two curtain calls after hitting his second homer.

Stanton, meanwhile, was booed in the eighth after the first five- strikeout game of his career. It was his first home game as a member of the Yankees, who acquired him in a trade with the Marlins in December.

Brewers 5, Cardinals 4

Christian Yelich and Ryan Braun hit backtoback solo homers against Dominic Leone with two outs in the ninth inning to rally the Brewers past the visiting Cardinals.

The Cardinals opened a 4- 0 lead behind back- to- back homers from Dexter Fowler and Tommy Pham in the first and a two- run shot by Marcell Ozuna in the third, but the Brewers got back in the game with a run in the fifth and two in the eighth before their heroics in the ninth.

According to MLB. com, it was the first game in big- league history to begin and end with consecutiv­e homers.

Angels 13, Indians 2

Two- way Japanese star Shohei Ohtani hit his first major- league homer — a three- run blast — in his first home at- bat to highlight the Angels’ six- run first inning in a victory against the Indians. Ohtani, who went 3- for- 4, won his big- league debut as a pitcher Sunday.

Braves 13, Nationals 6

Preston Tucker and Freddie Freeman hit three- run homers, and the Braves pounded A. J. Cole for 10 runs in 3‰ innings on their way to handing the visiting Nationals their first loss. Nationals star Bryce Harper homered for the fourth time in the last three games.

Astros 10 Orioles 6

Josh Reddick hit a two- run homer in the sixth inning and a grand slam in a five- run seventh to match his career highwith six RBI and power the host Astros past the Orioles.
