Year after year, Simeon produces talented athletes. The junior class, led by quarterback Alante Brown, is no exception.

The 5- 11, 170- pound Brown has turned heads for the Wolverines the last two seasons. He gave an oral commitment to Miami of Ohio this week.

‘‘ I have been down to the school four times, and every time I went, I knew I could be big at Miami of Ohio,’’ Brown said. ‘‘ Plus, they have a wonderful academic system.

‘‘ The coaching staff is wonderful, starting with [ quarterbacks] coach Eric Koehler.’’

Brown is athletic enough to play different positions, but he knows where he’s slotted to play for the RedHawks.

‘‘ They want me to play quarterback,’’ Brown said.

Brown had more than 10 scholarship offers. He also considered Ball State, Central Michigan, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan and Northern Illinois.

‘‘ When I committed, it was just happiness all around,’’ Brown said.

Keeler taking visits

Nazareth has a stockpile of juniors poised to make noise this fall, including 6- 6, 290- pound offensive lineman Matt Keeler, who is gaining recruiting traction.

Keeler most recently visited Virginia and Virginia Tech to check out what they had to offer.

‘‘ Virginia and was awesome,’’ he said. ‘‘ Loved the facilities and a great group of coaches.’’

Keeler thought all the coaches he met during his visits stood out.

‘‘ They were awesome and super-welcoming, and I loved the intensity of the practice,’’ Keeler said.

Keeler said most of the coaches he met seemed impressed with his size and strength.

‘‘ The offensive line coach said he loved my length and thinks I’d be a good fit at tackle in their offense,’’ Keeler said.

The trip to visit the Cavaliers and Hokies was one Keeler was looking forward to.

‘‘ I’ve been in contact with them for a while and just wanted to get down there and get a feel for everything,’’ Keeler said.

Keeler said he knows what he’s looking for in a school.

‘‘ I’m most interested in getting a feel for the coaches because I’ll obviously be spending a lot of time with them,’’ Keeler said. ‘‘ Another big part is their offense and to see where they see me fitting in.’’

Keeler is focusing on track this spring. He competes in the shot put and discus. But he also has several football goals.

‘‘ My two biggest goals are increasing my overall strength and just dropping weight,’’ Keeler said.
