Drivers facing most expensive gasoline prices in years

LOS ANGELES— Crude oil prices are at the highest level in more than three years, pushing up gasoline prices along the way. The U. S. daily national average for regular gasoline is $ 2.81 per gallon. That’s up from about $ 2.38 per gallon a year ago, according to Oil Price Informatio­n Service. And across the U. S., 16 percent of gas stations are charging more than $ 3 per gallon, according to AAA. “This will be the most expensive driving season since 2014,” said Tom Kloza, global head of energy analysis for Oil Price Informatio­n Service.

1st quarter borrowing sets record

WASHINGTON— The Treasury Department announced Monday that the government borrowed a record $ 488 billion in the January- March quarter, but officials expect borrowing needs will decline sharply for the current April- June quarter. Treasury said that actual borrowing in the first quarter exceeded the old record of $ 483 billion set in the first quarter of 2010.

Trust keeps lottery winner( s) private

HARRISBURG, Pa.— A lawyer working for a trust is claiming a $ 457million Powerball ticket sold at a Pennsylvan­ia convenienc­e store, leaving state Lottery officials with no details about who’ll get the money. A lottery spokesman said Monday the agency had no informatio­n on whether the ticket sold at a Speedway in Manheim on March 17 was won by one person or will be split among multiple people. The ticket was signed by the Emerald Legacy Trust and Blue Bell attorney Andrew Santana. Santana also signed the claim form.

Google settlement to get review

WASHINGTON— The Supreme Court has agreed to review the settlement of a class action lawsuit involving Google, where the $ 8.5 million settlement agreement largely directed money to organizati­ons rather than search engine users. The groups included AARP, Carnegie Mellon University and centers associated with Harvard, the Illinois Institute of Technology and Stanford. The lawsuit involves Google users who sued saying Google violated privacy rights by disclosing to websites the search terms users entered to get there.
