Bears decline White’s option

The Bears declined the fifthyear option on wide receiver

Kevin White, leaving him one more season to try to make an impact.

The decision was no surprise. Signing White, the seventh overall pick in 2015, for 2019 would have cost the Bears $ 13.924 million. The salary would have been guaranteed even if he gets hurt, no small thing for a receiver who has appeared in only five games in three seasons because of injuries, totaling 21 catches for 193 yards.

The Bears added three receivers this offseason who figure to have priority over White: free agents Allen Robinson and

Taylor Gabriel and secondround pick Anthony Miller. † Linebacker Jerrell Freeman, who was suspended twice for performance- enhancing drugs and later said he struggled with concussions during his two seasons with the Bears, announced his retirement. † Ex- Bears receiver Markus

Wheaton signed a one- year contract with the Eagles.
