Mets bat out of order, fall to Reds in 10th

-

The Mets batted out of order in the top of the first inning against the Reds on Wednesday, undercutting a rally for a 2- 1 loss to the Reds in 10 innings.

Wilmer Flores batted second and struck out against Sal Romano for the second out of the inning. Asdrubal Cabrera came up next — following the batting order announced pregame — and doubled to left.

When cleanup hitter Jay Bruce came to the plate, umpire Gabe Morales took out the lineup card the Mets had turned in and called an out for batting out of turn.

The Mets’ lineup card was different than the announced order, showing Cabrera batting second and Flores third.

Carrasco fans 14 against Brewers

Carlos Carrasco struck out 14 in a complete game, Tyler Naquin and Francisco Lindor homered, and the visiting Indians beat the Brewers 6- 2. Carrasco gave up five hits, walked one and threw 117 pitches. It was his 10th complete game in 149 major- league starts.

Cole continues to pile up K’s

Gerrit Cole struck out nine to raise his major league- leading total to 86, and the Astros beat the Athletics 4- 1 to complete a three- game sweep. Houston has won 10 of its last 12 road games. Jose Altuve doubled twice and had three hits for the Astros.

Surging Yanks beat Red Sox

Brett Gardner capped a slumpbusting performance with a goahead, two- run triple off Craig Kimbrel in the eighth inning, Aaron Judge followed with a homer and the Yankees rallied to beat the visiting Red Sox 9- 6 for their 17th victory in 18 games.

The Yankees are on a 35- 8 tear in the Bronx since Sept. 2, including the postseason, and at 16- 5 have the best home record in the majors this season.

This and that

Red Sox left- hander David Price has a mild case of carpal tunnel syndrome. Price will throw a bullpen session Thursday and then the team will decide what to do next.

The Diamondbacks can leave Chase Field to find a new home by 2022 without penalty following a vote by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors.
