Bears’ Smith gets some good news
Items stolen from Roquan Smith’s car over the weekend have been recovered, except for one: the Bears- issued iPad that the team wiped out.
The Bears’ first- round pick reported items missing from his car on Saturday in Athens, Georgia.
Athens- Clarke County Police public information officer Epifanio Rodriguez said a fingerprint found in the linebacker’s car identified the suspect.
Authorities were able to recover Smith’s Georgia helmet and three Bulldogs jerseys, including his game- worn Rose Bowl and the national title game jerseys. The suspect is expected to face felony theft charges.
“I would personally like to thank everyone for their kind words and prayers as Athens- Clarke County Police Department worked very hard to identify the individual responsible for this,” Smith said in a video posted on Twitter. “It was definitely huge.”
SOCCER Ellis’ lone goal gives Fire victory
Kevin Ellis’ goal in the 89th minute lifted the Fire to a 1- 0 victory over the Montreal Impact on Wednesday at Toyota Park.
Ellis, who had a goal in his second consecutive game, came forward along the right side, gathered a pass near the corner flag and took seven touches to get inside the box for a deflected shot that froze goalkeeper Evan Bush.
The Fire ( 3- 4- 2) have won three of their last five games in the series despite outscoring the Impact by just two goals, 7- 5. Montreal ( 3- 7- 0) has lost five of its last six games.
NBA PLAYOFFS Celtics set up rematch with Cavaliers
Jayson Tatum caught a pass underneath the basket, shook off a hit and went up for the go- ahead layup with 23 seconds left and the Celtics beat the visiting Sixers 114- 112 to advance to the Eastern Conference finals.
Tatum scored 25 points, Jaylen Brown had 24 and Terry Rozier 17, sinking a pair of free throws after forcing Joel Embiid’s turnover in the final seconds for Boston, which will play Cleveland for the second consecutive year for a spot in the NBA finals.
Embiid had 27 points and 12 rebounds for the 76ers, who won 20 out of 21 games before Boston beat them three consecutive times to open the East semifinals.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL Rice: NCAA rules ‘ incomprehensible’

Condoleezza Rice defended the group’s work in a telephone interview while making a strong case that student- athletes in all NCAA sports should be able to make money from their names, images and likenesses.
The current NCAA rules, she said, “[ are] just incomprehensible.”
MISCELLANEOUS NASCAR teams hit with penalties
The teams for drivers Austin Dillon,
Clint Bowyer and Daniel Suarez were penalized by NASCAR after the race Sunday at Dover. Bowyer and Suarez were each hit with $ 50,000 fines for their crew chiefs and both teams lost their car chiefs for the next two races for rear window violations. Each team lost 20 drivers and owner points.
