Tesla on Autopilot in 60 mph crash: driver

SALT LAKE CITY— The 28- year- old woman driving a Tesla electric car that hit a stopped Utah fire department vehicle over the weekend while going 60 mph said the car’s semi- autonomous Autopilot mode was engaged at the time of the crash. Police said Monday the driver, who broke her foot, also said she was looking at her phone before the accident. Tesla co- founder Elon Musk said on Twitter that it was “super messed up” that the incident was receiving significan­t attention, while thousands of auto accidents a year are regularly ignored. He said the “actually amazing” thing is how little the driver was injured.

Markle’s father’s plans unknown

LONDON— Britain’s Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are requesting “understand­ing and respect” for Markle’s father, Thomas Markle, after celebrity news site TMZ reported he would not be coming to the royal wedding to walk his daughter down the aisle, Kensington Palace said Monday night. A palace statement did not clarify if the bride’s father would be at the wedding.

Reid has cancerous tumor removed

LAS VEGAS— Former Sen. Harry Reid, D- Nev., was recovering after undergoing surgery Monday at Johns Hopkins Cancer Center in Baltimore to remove a cancerous tumor from his pancreas. Reid, 78, will undergo chemothera­py.
